Commonwealth Bank is a subsidiary of Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA). Initially, the Commonweath Bank of Australia estabished a presence in Indonesia by opening a Representative office in 1990.
In 1997, a new entity, PT BII Commonwealth was established to provide
corporate banking services to Indonesian and other corporate entities.
In 2000, PT BII Commonwealth changed its name to become Commonwealth Bank, with the CBA as the majority shareholder.
In early 2007, the Commonwealth Bank offered to acquire a majority stake in Bank ANK (83%). With the acceptance of the offer by Bank ANK`s ownersand following the signing of the acquisition deed on July 26, 2007, preparations began for Bank ANK to be merged into the Commonwealth Bank.
The effective merger date was set for December 31, 2007. Effective from January 2, 2008, Bank ANK began operating as an integral part of the Commonwealth Bank.
